After-School Art Club Begins

By Bradley Luczak

On the afternoon of September 19th, the Art Club held its first meeting of the school year. Formed by Mrs. Bratcher and Mrs. Collins, the Art Club allows students to work on any form of art they want in an open studio environment.

Though the school does offer academic art courses, the club carries a few notable distinctions.“Students have social opportunities in the club that they don’t get in class,” Mrs. Collins explains. “They learn from each other, and share common interests.” Furthermore, the club offers nearly two hours of time to work, and allows students to work in two separate rooms. The club is also planned to provide several activities for students to participate in.

“Having community involvement is very important,” Mrs. Bratcher states while detailing her goals for the club. “I want students to have jobs available, be able to enter competitions, and be exposed to new exhibits.''

Alongside teachers, the Art Club is assisted by two student co-presidents, Zeke Brese and Tyler Turner. “We help organize meetings and field trips,” explains Brese. “We also have [an] influence on group activities, and help put things together.” Students attending the club were eager to share their thoughts on it as well. “I’m in an art class. You don’t have as much time to get things done there,” Joy Marshall stated, “The club gives more time to work and develop a relationship with the teacher.”

Those interested in the Art Club are welcome to attend the next meeting on Dec. 5th or follow along in the bulletin for updates.
