Aminata Kamara: Owasso’s Rising Entrepreneur

By Olivia Voth

Owasso is home to the smart and talented Aminata Kamara, who is a young entrepreneur.  She runs her own Black, female-owned  business venture, with its own website and ambassadors. Branded “Kaminabae,” Amina began the business during the summer of 2020. It began with lip gloss, and has expanded into a trendy jewelry and cosmetics store. The COVID-19 lockdown inspired Amina to expand her creativity and begin her own business. The products are made specifically to empower women, and has proved to do so as her business grows within the Owasso student body.

“To start a business in the middle of a pandemic you have to be bored AND crazy,” advises Kamara.

Many teens explored new hobbies during the coronavirus lockdown, but Amina truly took it to the next level.

From chokers, bracelets, necklaces, stone wire-wrapped rings and, of course, the famous lip glosses, there’s a wide variety of products to choose from. The lip glosses even come in a squeeze tube or a wand tube, in a variety of flavors and colors, because every girl is different. The brand is blowing up on Instagram, and has even been promoted by actress Skai Jackson when she posted about the brand on her Instagram story!

Kamara promotes her brand on Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook and other forms of social media, even though it is promoted plenty by its ambassadors—many of which are her peers and female students of Owasso High School. As a student taking all AP classes, Kamara is no stranger to challenges that push her towards greater things.

“Starting my own business has been one of the hardest tasks I’ve ever undertaken, but through creating my own brand I’ve been able to embrace my individuality in ways that I never have before, and although it is challenging, it has shown me that I have the will to achieve my goals in life,” Kamara recalls.

In even the darkest of times for an Owasso student, creative and strong-willed Amina Kamara has pulled through and created something absolutely beautiful out of it, literally! Blinging up the young women she’s going to school with is just one small part of Amina’s massive success in life. Kaminabae is proof of what Owasso students are capable of, while also being a good example of lifting up the diversity of female students and empowering the community as a whole. Clearly, overcoming obstacles is no problem for Aminata Kamara, because she’s achieved something truly amazing, all the while making Owasso a little more beautiful.
