Students Put Their Own Spin On Into the Woods

Students across Owasso have had the opportunity to compete in a district-wide art contest that would prove to have more benefits than just prizes. These benefits came about through the creative process each student had to experience while creating their personal Into the Woods dioramas. For example, many of them learned how to work with a variety of perspectives in a three-dimensional environment for the first time because of this project.

“It teaches them background, middle ground, foreground, they use lots of different materials and different supplies... it’s kind of like anything goes and it really stretches their imagination,” Mrs. Bratcher, one of the high school art teachers, says enthusiastically.

While many have grown as artists, their improvements might not have been enough to win. Only three students from each grade will be awarded prizes, however, losing shouldn’t lower their spirits because there will be greater opportunities in the future. For instance, Art IV students have recently begun their own collaborative project involving Into the Woods with a tree as the focal point.

“We might have Rapunzel’s tower stuck in the top, Little Red Riding Hood, you know, in a hole in the tree; that kind of thing” Mrs. Collins, another high school art teacher, elaborates.

This project will be displayed in the PAC surrounded by the other dioramas not long before opening night of Into the Woods. So be sure to check out these wonderful art pieces as well as the play which takes place on March 5th, 6th, and 7th!
