Classic cars cruising through Owasso

By Paige Purifoy

Summer isn’t the only thing rolling around the corner. As the weather warms, Cruise Nights, organized by the Owasso Cruzrs, are in full swing. Every Wednesday, the parking lot between Mcalisters and Quiktrip on 86th is packed with cars—but not just any cars. Jaw-droppingly gorgeous antique vehicles fill the lot, driven by residents of Tulsa county.

Owasso Cruzrs is an unincorporated club formed by Tulsa County citizens that have a shared love for classic cars. They do most of their outreach through Facebook, and the online community has amassed over 1,000 members.

“Whether you have a cool car/truck to bring or just like to look at fun vehicles, we look forward to seeing you there,” the Owsso Cruzrs page reads. “Drive over, park your car, grab some food, walk around and admire some beautiful vehicles. Remember to bring a lawn chair and stay a while.”

Lawn chairs are an integral part of the “cruise nights.” Car owners will set up camp outside their hot rod, eager to share their enthusiasm with onlookers, or they will congregate in a circle with the rest of the club and discuss their cars.

“A lot of these guys will be sticking around until the sun goes down,” remarks Gary, a member of the club. “I mean, you’ve got classics, you've got newer stuff, you’ve got anything that suits your fancy.”

The opportunity to see such impressive antique automobiles should not be passed up. The warmer weather and longer nights emerging make the perfect atmosphere for meandering down rows of cars and learning about pieces of history in the process.

“In the summertime, there's always a car show around Okla,” David, another member of the club, grins.

Not only do the Owasso Cruzrs provide a place for people with a shared love of cars, but they also welcome the Owasso community with open arms. The parking lot is full of photographers, families, friends, couples and casual enjoyers of automobiles. Next Wednesday, be sure to pull up a lawn chair and join the circle.
