The Clue Behind the Curtain

By Kai Neuberger

Originally set to happen last year, Owasso’s theater troupe is currently preparing for Clue. While they didn’t have to recast the position of any of last year's seniors, some spots did have to be recast whether it be for the comfort of the cast members during this pandemic or for people who had scheduling conflicts.

While talking to Mr. King, he mentions that, “... [we] held off on canceling the show until May, like we thought that some way we’d be able to do the show. [It] wasn’t able to happen … then we just canceled it. We weren’t going to re-visit the play. I’m a fan of giving a lot of people opportunity and whenever you’ve already cast these people, the next year you’re still robbing somebody of an opportunity that next year. So, I wasn’t really a fan of doing the same show, but I looked at the finances of it all and we’ve already paid for it. … we decided ... we already have a cast in place so most of the cast is still the same.”

The updated cast is now beginning to work on their lines. While it’s uncertain how the production will play on, I do indeed hope that this go-around they actually get to perform it. The show must go on!

While rumors have floated around the school of King’s “COVID Curtain” I actually had the pleasure of seeing it myself. Surrounded by a wooden frame and carefully secured he has created a COVID free space for his desk.

When asking what inspired his curtain he tells me: “I kept seeing things like that ... in places like at the store ... and the bank. I wondered if I could get some plastic and I looked it up, vinyl, see through vinyl, that’s expensive. … So I thought, ‘I wonder if I could do the same thing with shower curtains. I have a frame I could use...and [the frame] is pretty good.’ I had at first wanted to hang it from the ceiling, but they weren’t long enough sheets, … so I bought 8 or 9 of them and if something happens to those [the curtains that are already up] I can put another one up.”

It’s good to see students and teachers alike taking precautions during this pandemic. Be sure to keep an eye out for this production of Clue later this year!
