Owasso High School has a sufficient amount of impeccable fine arts. The Pride of Owasso is mentioned fairly often but their ‘right hand man’ is rather left to the imagination. Owasso Colorguard is a group of students who accompany the Pride of Owasso on the field for football games and competition shows. Although they are commonly seen side by side with the band, they also have their own competition season called “Winter Guard”.
Winter Guard is a program that color guard groups around the country partake in during winter after marching band season. Owasso Colorguard is a notable attender of this program and has their fair share of accomplishments within the activity. These ladies and gentlemen work tedious hours perfecting the choreography, flag work, and rifle work.
Owasso has one middle school and two high school Winter Guard groups: Guard A and Guard B. All guard groups attended the same competitions but placed in different places due to them having three entirely different shows. The three 2025 Winter Guard shows were, “Cloudy Day,” for the middle school, “Angel of my Dreams,” for Guard A and “Two Shadows,” for Guard B.
Taylor Droese, a junior Guard A member, highlighted her experience being in Winter Guard over the past four years, saying, “I just like Winter Guard because it’s specifically just the guard…comparing it to the field, you don’t see guard as much but in Winter Guard it’s more individual work.”
The Winter Guard finished off their season at the Winter Guard International (WGI) competition, which took place just a few hours prior to Owasso’s prom night. The Winter Guards ended strong with Guard B taking second place and Guard A taking fifth.
Droese continued to describe the ‘motive’ to keep the energy up while attending her junior prom after putting her best on the competition floor just moments before, stating, “Just have a plan and know what’s going on.”
Owasso Color Guard members are some of the hardest working people in the fine arts of Owasso, with overlooked recognition. These middle and high school students put their best efforts into this terrific season and the future for them is most definitely bright.
