Every year, the student council at Owasso High School treats their dedicated seniors to a fun day away from the school. The senior students who are in good standing with their points are allowed to attend this field trip. A busload of students and two teachers, Ms. Beck and Coach DeSandre, went to spend the day at the Tulsa Zoo.

Senior Ashlyn Stephenson had a great time on this field trip, saying, “It was nice to have a relaxing day with my friends before the year ends and we separate.”

Many students enjoyed the fact that they were able to split up from the main group and enjoy seeing all the animals at their own pace. Throughout the trip, students continued to run into their peers and share their experiences before continuing on their adventures.

Senior Sophie Anderson also had a wonderful time on her trip. This was Anderson’s first year being a part of the Student Council club, and she loved it. STUCO gave her a family and new experiences.

Anderson mentions her involvement by saying, “I am incredibly thankful I joined. The relationships and bonds I created and furthered throughout the year within this group are wonderful, and I am immensely grateful to have been a part of it with these people.”

This trip, for many students, was a full circle moment that ended their K-12 career on a sentimental note.

Stephenson recalls her first-ever field trip and compares it to her last by mentioning, “It’s crazy to think that this was my last field trip ever. My first field trip in Kindergarten was to the zoo.”

Many seniors can relate to Stephenson’s statement since the zoo is such a common place for elementary schools to take their students. For seniors to be able to let loose and feel like children again is very important for their end-of-the-year stressful environment.

Many seniors like Stephenson were hit hard by the time the field trip was wrapping up. There is less than a month left of the school year, and all of the seniors will have some of their last moments together. They will then graduate, go their separate ways and begin new adventures.

Stephenson says, “When we were eating lunch, it really hit me that the year is ending, and we’re all about to move on from high school.”

Congratulations seniors! The journey to graduation is difficult and different for everyone, but it is almost complete. Hold on to these memories and reach out to friends and family as this new chapter begins.
