I am but a lonely drifter’

By ShayLa Blake

I am but a lonely drifter

Drinking wild ocean air

My eyelashes caked with salt

shayla poems.png

And my hands are dry with sand

I catch lightning in a bottle

Cork it and watch it float

I stare aimlessly at the sun

Running in a never-ending sky

I am but a lonely drifter

Long cast out to sea

I pray that on land

Someone’s missing me

Danger lurks at every turn

Waves rock me side to side

I search for caste lines

But, am not surprised at what I find

I realize now, what I am,

And all ill ever be

I am but a lonely drifter

Long cast out to sea

Raven Angel

By ShayLa Blake

A river of black flows and the wind blows,

Whispering in the ears of angels

shayla poetry 2.png

White noise filling crowded streets,

and a distant hum along with the raven song

Cascading blue in blankets of pale light;

And soft curves highlight the coldness of steel;

A mystery converging with the softness of still

A warm hand, rolling along the spine of trees,

Dripping with paint shadowing the soul

The shake of white,

Speckling stars bright

Feet stepping on air, light as air

The smell of cherry wine, with much to spare

A Raven Angel,

Soft pink and sweet sounds

Fire charing ice the black

New words, emerge, submerge

A Raven Angel
