Like a video game but in real life

Out of all of the clubs at Owasso High School, there is one that stands out: the LARP club. LARP stands for Live Action Roleplay and is a way for many people to live out their fantasies. LARP club is a way for all types of people to have fun and express themselves in many different ways.

The LARP club was originally created four years ago by Mr. Ridenour and Mr. Gilliand as a way to have fun in a fantasy world. However, the club was restricted to only the cosplay side of LARP as they did not know if the school would allow the combat side. After finding out that school would allow combat with things like foam swords, the club truly took off.

Around November of 2021 is when the club introduced foam weapon combat and when the club went from a handful of students to over 60 members. The club has been an amazing success and has new members joining every month. This is largely due to how inclusive the LARP club is.

Mr. Ridenour reinforces this by stating, “What makes [LARP] different [from other clubs] though is that there is something for everyone. Maybe you’re not athletic, well you can be a spell caster.”

The main objective of LARP club is for a group of people to get together and have fun role playing in a fantasy world. The club does hold competitions such as debates where two sides fight over which opinion is better (ex. waffles or pancakes), because as long as everyone is having fun then there is no loser.

LARP club meets every Wednesday after school to have a “game day” where they do random events like debate fights or other role play activities. They also have an ongoing East vs. West campus rivalry where the two sides combat each other and try to overcome the opposite campus. LARP is always accepting new members and is open to anyone willing to have fun!
