National Pet Month: Spotlight on the pets of journalism

By Atalie Sherman

Nothing quite brightens one's day like the unconditional love of a pet. The first to greet us when we get home from school and the center of attention in any household, pets are entertaining all hours of the day. This National Pet Month, our journalism class wanted to give a special shout-out to our favorite family pets and share the adorable furry friends that continuously make our days. Whether it be the agreeable nature of a dog or the playful personality of a cat, pets have a charming way of becoming beloved members of the family.

Dogs

The most loyal member of the animal kingdom, there's not much that beats the eager-to-please attitude of a dog. Known for their loyalty, energy and family-friendly temperament, it's no wonder they are, by far, the most popular pet. From the tiniest terrier to the biggest St. Bernard, our journalism class agrees that canine companions hold special places in our hearts.

Cats

From cute and cuddly to reserved and feisty, no two cats are exactly alike. Their upfront personalities make them great companions, and their low-maintenance lifestyle make them ideal for most families. Known for their ever-present curiosity and hilarious impulsive nature, journalism has high appreciation for their playful feline friends.

National Pet Month was created to be a time where we celebrate the mutual benefits of the relationships between pets and their owners. From companionship, to improving the quality of life for those with disabilities, the value pets bring to our society is worthy of recognition. This National Pet Month, take a moment to appreciate the animals in your lives, and if you are considering pet ownership for the first time, visit one of our local shelters that are filled with animals looking for a forever home.
