Owasso Basketball Team Prepares for the Covid Season

By Ian Busking

The Owasso Rams Basketball season is coming up, and the team has something to prove this year. With a record of seven wins and six losses last season in district play, the team is returning all their players and looking to improve their record.

Regarding the effect that COVID has had on this season for the Rams, Junior Shooting Guard Price Pennington has this to say about it:

“Covid has caused a few of our players to sit out for two weeks, and this could be critical for the start of the season, but we are trying to limit the amount of illness being spread by doing the little things, such as using hand sanitizer, always wearing a mask, keeping safe distance and being smart about the outside activities we participate in. Many of the players are looking towards online schooling, so the chance that someone in the classroom gets COVID won’t affect the team as a whole.”

Despite how odd this year is and will continue to be, the Rams are expecting to be more successful than the 2019-2020 season.

Price also says, “I believe we have a bright year ahead of us that could ultimately result in much success, but this season won’t be given to us. We will have to continue to work on and off the court to see the results we like. We are devoted to reaching the state tournament this year and bringing home a gold ball.”

Working out all of the mishaps from last season, the Rams are working a lot on what they need to improve in practice to reach their goals. Junior Caleb Leslie comments on that topic.

He says, “last year we were a young team with little experience, no seniors and also had trouble closing out games. We were able to keep up with some really good teams but kept losing by just a few points. This year we hope to successfully finish games and believe our experience will be a key factor in our success.”

Come out this upcoming season to watch the Owasso Rams Basketball team try to beat their record from last season and ultimately win the state championship. The first game starts December 8 at home.
